No Reggae Rising Decision Tonight

For some strange reason, the Humboldt County Planning Commission not only canceled its meeting tonight due to improper noticing, where it was to decide on whether or not to grant Tom Dimmick the conditional use permit needed to host Reggae Rising, among other controversial topics, but the Planning Department refused to comment on the details. The T-S published an article previewing the meeting on June 30, which means a notice had to have been available on June 29.

According to the Brown Act, a public meeting needs to be posted 72 hours prior to a meeting occuring, which would mean that given what is known, something was posted at least 48 hours before the planned meeting tonight.

Dimmick was given two extra weeks to get his house in order during the Planning Commission’s June 17 meeting, despite the fact that several public agencies, including Cal Fire, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, and the California Highway Patrol made it clear to commissioners that they did not want the event to proceed this year, as Dimmick not only failed to pay, in the case of CHP and HCSO, for services past, but he also had not coordinated with these agencies on handling event security and other public safety issues.

It would appear now with little over a month left until the event is scheduled to happen that there will not be a decision until next week at the earliest.
