Folkin’ A, Dude. What’s Going On This Week?

I honestly wish I could tell you there’s a lot going on this week… I really do. But NO, we have ONE thing going on ALL week, and that’s the Humboldt Folklife Festival. Of course the FREE all day fest is really where it’s at… but meh, take a look at the schedule, and you’ll easily figure out if the Folklife Festival is your thing or not.
Wow, honestly, other than the Folking Fucklife Festival (oh shit, wait, the fucklife festival sounds way more awesome!) there really isn’t a lot happening this week. Seriously… Nothing.
Well, that’s not entirely true. A friend of mine passed my name along to Colleen Green, who got in touch with me about touring up this way with Girlfriends. My first response was:
“You do realize I’m in Arcata, right?”
Apparently our wonderful little town has been getting a reputation for more than just top notch chronic (I mean… “Medicinal-Grade Cannabis”) without the work of some giggle-inducing rebranding efforts. After telling me that “Arcata is the rad place to be” (Yeah! Take that Medford/Ashland!) I asked around to try and find a house to host the show.
Thankfully, my friend Clyde volunteered his place, so it’s on. Party People is also playing (I’ve been told they play some dance-worthy tunes). As with most house shows, just ask around, visit the usual calendar, or… just check your Facebook event invites…
The shindig is Wednesday (7/21) around 7-8 p.m. or so at Clyde’s House. Bring a couple of bucks for the touring bands. They’ll love you for it, and since they’re touring the entire US… that would really help.
Ah, hmm… There was something else happening this week…
Ah yes! How could I forget? The headline in the Times-Standard today:
Monday Night Budget Rock DECLARES WAR ON THURSDAY, INVADES.
(Definitely wasn’t anything about Eureka’s Massive Budget Issues… Not at all…)
Yes, that’s right. Monday Night Budget Rock is taking over Jambalaya this Thursday (7/22) to bring you Emeralds and Wildildlife (and no, that’s not a typo). Expect to hear some loud rock emanating from behind the door, and a few sad whimpers… since those who came to see Wet Fez will have to wait until next week. 10 p.m. at Jambalaya $3/21+
Well shit, that’s it…
Again with a lack of hostility and abrasiveness this week. What the fuck, dude?

UPDATE: Oh shit! I totally forgot about a fucking show! Sheesh.
Saturday (July 24): Peace Season, Medicine Ball, thelittlestillnotbigenough, and Manilapede are playing at the Arcata Theater Lounge for $5! So here’s the thing: the music — it may not exactly be your thing. I’d highly advise you to visit and give ‘em a listen first. But hey, the people involved and playing are all really fucking awesome. Plus, I highly recommend going just to see Medicine Ball play. Arcata Theater / 9 p.m / $5 / 21+
ALSO on Saturday (July 24): A FUCKIN HUGE YARD SALE. 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Corner of 10th and F streets in Arcata (at the Brothel — the big red house). I’ll be there for a bit, sellin’ some stuff I found around my house. Want a fax machine? An Inkjet USB printer? Some other random crap I’ve got lying around? You know you do! There’ll be a bunch of us out there slingin’ mad deals left and right. Here’s the facebook event. oh yeah — it’s ALL AGES.
